We calve later than most ranches, starting mid/end of April, as the weather is usally nicer and the cows can be out on grass pastures for calving. However, there are those spring storms that come through and drop a few inches of snow on us overnight. Luckily we have some really dedicated cowboys who will do what ever it takes to make sure all the newborn calves are healthy and warm. Even it it involves bringing them horseback to a heated truck or barn where they can warm up before we put them back with their mother.
Fortunately (most of the time) the weather is decent and the cows have their babies without any interference, then once the calf is licked off by its mother it can be tagged and weighed and put inthe system.
